The History of Light
About 30,000 years ago, light skin developed as an evolutionary response to reduced sunlight. Today, the "myth of lightness" - the idea that light skin is superior to dark - is perhaps the oldest and most universal myth in all of human history. Part scientific chronicle, part literary-social history, part personal essay, this book traces the myth of lightness from its biological roots to its modern-day consequences.
